Yagami Ryusuke
"One thousand miles away, there's nothing left to say
But so much left that I don't know
We never had a choice, this world is too much noise
It takes me under, it takes me under once again" - Savior by Rise Against
A product of both his upbringing in more ways than can be imagined, Ryusuke is not what many might imagine when the word “dragon” comes to mind, although that more depends on which school of thought one is to believe concerning the numerous world wide legends considering the creatures – while they are known for their raw power and strength almost without exception, accounts on whether they are powerful, destructive beasts to be feared or wise, benevolent beings with man’s best interests in mind tend to vary wildly depending on where one lives. Ryusuke, thankfully, would be counted among the later, much like his father and grandfather, both of which were true to the traditional oriental view of the creatures – distant, but benevolent and wise, observers, advisors and protectors to mankind when needed, a legacy which Ryusuke himself has inherited and takes great pride in. Extremely intelligent and even tempered if somewhat distant to most who meet him, Ryusuke knows full well that he is still relatively young compared to both his immediate and extended family and as such tends to stay quiet and stick to the background when possible, learning through observation. His decades long sojourn to his grandfather’s domains in the lands west of Japan has given him a great deal of experience dealing with humans both as a species and as individuals, making him wise beyond his years, although he tends to be extremely modest about his experience in large part due to being the youngest member of his extended family. Thanks in large part to his father’s and grandfather’s tutelage in preparing him to take his father’s place as well as quite possibly that of his grandfather’s in time, Ryusuke has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and while he may bend the rules here and there or make exceptions where he feels it may be warranted, he has had yet to be led astray by this code of ethics. If there are any flaws in his personality, they lie mostly with the fact that he might be too patient with individuals at times, and that he will often slack off whenever possible and disappear for days at a time, although this likely has more to do with his subjective biological age which would physically place him in his mid teens. While he is nearly impossible to truly irritate, though, those who manage to do so will likely end up regretting it – his tolerance is matched only by his wrath, true to his heritage, and it is not something to be taken lightly.
When among friends, people he trusts or those who he otherwise feels at ease around, though, Ryusuke’s demeanor will begin to change a great deal. While the portion of his personality that most people see isn’t a falsehood by any means, Ryusuke keeps himself in check lest he appear to be any less than what is expected of him. Among those he feels comfortable with, though, his true self will begin to emerge – that of a easy going, somewhat humorous if albeit solemn individual, although at times he will be something of a trickster and a comedian. It is during such times that Ryusuke stands out for what he really is – not by any means a child anymore, with those days long since past, but not quite an adult either.
Friends:
In large part due to how he was raised, it can mostly be said that Ryusuke hasn't had any real friends up to this point - a staggering number of different caretakers, acquintances, cousins and vassels sworn to protect him before and after his father's death, but apart from a small handful of family members Ryusuke was kept distant from them, and as such trusts nearly none of them. Such a relationship would be something completely new to Ryusuke in all but concept, and these individuals would be treasured above all else - Ryusuke wouldn't hesitate to help or protect such people if matters ever came to that point. This group will likely be the central point to his life, at least until one other spot is filled.
Enemies:
This is an area that Ryusuke is slightly more familiar with - a fact that Ryusen made sure to make Ryusuke aware of from a young age was that his cousins were by and large not to be trusted in that they would all be candidates to take their grandfather's place at some point, with even Ryusen becoming something of a rival by that point if he had survived. Apart from that, though, it is relatively difficult to earn a place here through trivial means - it is only by directly threatening something or someone that Ryusuke cares about that you will make an enemy of him, or by completely disregarding the lives of others (read as senseless murder/destruction). Not a place most sane individuals would want to be unless they were very, very sure of their ability to protect themselves.
Romance
Something that Ryusuke has been more or less completely blind to for virtually all of his life, he is familiar with the idea of it but has never experienced it himself nor has it crossed his mind that he might, having been raised as an only child and seperated from virtually everyone except a few choice family members and adults for what was at the time meant for his own protection. That being said, though, Ryusuke is indeed at that age where one begins to notice the opposite gender, although he does a damn fine job of hiding it and in general not letting it distract him. In short, while it would be difficult in that Ryusuke is about as dense as one could get in this area of social ettiquete and in general doesn't let people get that close to him when he can avoid it (especially due to the fact that he is travelling), the chances of someone trying to make such a relationship work wouldn't be at all in vain as long as they were honest and patient with Ryusuke. Considering how loyal and protective he is of those he'd consider simply as friends, it's difficult to exactly explain how much of a step up from that this would be, but such a person would likely be one of, if not, the sole focus of his life - at least until more family related responsibilities are heaped upon him by his grandfather, although that would still be a long time coming.
Other:
I'm very much aware that the above sections don't cover every plot possibility, but that's what this section is for! Rivals, acquaintances that don't fit the other categories, whatever! I'm up for just about anything (within reason IC wise), so whatever the idea is, post below and we'll see what we come up with!
